LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT 

Special Educational Needs schools within the Portsmouth area are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work within their specialist settings. Schools can comprise of Primary and Secondary aged children who have varied learning needs to include Autism, Global Development Delay, Speech and Language needs, mobility needs, hearing and visual impairments, and Social Emotional Mental Health needs. 

The successful applicant would need to be empathetic, resilient, able to communicate effectively, patient, and be able to effectively manage challenging behaviours. You will need to be flexible and able to work with varied ages and needs, as you may be required to support in classes across the school. 

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and support pupils with special needs and help them reach their potential in a professional and caring manner
  • Be reliable and punctual when working individually or when part of a team and supporting colleagues to do their jobs
  • Actively plan and join in play and youth activities including swimming, ball games, messy play and music
  • Be prepared to communicate differently with a wide range of people
  • Keep records and write reports when required
  • Ensure the highest level of safety and safeguarding at all times

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
