Smile Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in Smethwick. This is an ongoing position, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners in a supportive and welcoming school environment.
About the Role:
As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with the class teacher to support children's learning and development during this crucial stage of their education. You will provide essential help in both whole-class and small-group settings, ensuring pupils receive the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant looking to contribute to the early education of children, helping them build key skills and confidence in a positive and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Supporting individual pupils or small groups to ensure they understand lesson objectives.
  • Assisting with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Supervising children during activities, including breaks and lunchtimes when required.
  • Helping to prepare classroom resources and materials.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with young children in a classroom setting
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable).
  • A caring, patient, and proactive attitude, with a passion for supporting children's education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with both staff and students.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
