Smile Education is a leading recruitment service for schools in the West Midlands. A school in Oldbury is currently looking for an experienced Complex needs teaching assistant to join their team on a long-term contract starting immediately.


About the role: 

  • You will be supporting the class teacher by delivering extra support to young people who have complex needs
  • Supporting students with Special educational needs – including ASC/MLD and behavioural needs.
  • You will be supporting teachers in managing pupil behaviour.
  • You will be working to provide tailored activities that cater to needs of the child
  • You will use your kind and caring nature to provide a safe space for young people to grow and develop
  • Supporting the class teacher by following daily session plans to enable the students to get the best quality education
  • You will work closely with the SENCO and other multi agencies to ensure the child is receiving the correct level of support
  • You will use your kind and caring nature to provide a safe space for young people to grow and develop
  • You will be delivering personal care to children with complex needs, to include feeding, changing and toileting.

About You:  

  • You have a genuine desire to want to work with young people with complex needs and to make a difference to their lives
  • You hold a relevant qualification and have 6 months of experience working with young people with SEN
  • You have a caring and kind nature and resilient attitude to supporting the students in your care.
  • You are experienced and comfortable delivering personal care to students, including toileting, changing, and feeding where appropriate.
  • You are committed to safeguarding children and are willing to undertake training if necessary to further your safeguarding knowledge.
  • You can demonstrate drive passion and can motivate children in and outside of the classroom.
  • You are confident working with children with complex needs
  • You will be supported by an experienced SEN teacher and support staff
