This DT role combines Product design and Construction teaching with a real nurturing approach, working with students who have been excluded from their mainstream education, many who have been tragically let down by the adult world. There will be a real focus on integrating students back into lessons, raising emotional and academic attainment. You will have a focused LSA in the class who will be an aspiring Psychologist or SEN Teacher, actively adding value to your teaching, not just acting as a supervisor.

The learning levels of the students will focus on the boys interests, which is DT, the Performing Arts and sport - one of the main aims of your role being the skill to make the curriculum relative to the boys. The school has a varied curriculum with sport and the performing arts being a large part of it - therapeutic and practical purposes.

A sincerity for SEMH, trauma and challenging behaviour is key to you excelling within this role; there is no shame if this kind of teaching role does not appeal. Empathy is the key here, not sympathy, combined with the ability to bring a KS2 curriculum to life and with relevance. If you have been a mainstream Primary / Secondary teacher and exceled in challenging classes, often with students who may have ended up entering a PRU/AP environment, this role should appeal.

Understanding the class, socio economic, faith and cultures of Surrey and how disparate they can be. This role involves a lot of pragmatism and patience, it could and will take months to establish relationships with students have been let down by the adult world.

Interviews with the SLT, tours and trial lessons will be available immediately after the Easter break.
