Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for dedicated and motivated Learning Support Assistants to join our partner schools in the Gosport area. We are looking for individuals who are experienced in supporting students with additional learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and behavioural difficulties.

This is a rewarding role that offers the chance to make a real difference in the educational journey of students who need it most.

  • Individual and Small Group Support: Work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, providing tailored support and interventions to help them engage with the curriculum and make progress in their learning.
  • Implementing Support Plans: Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and interventions under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo, ensuring that each pupil's specific needs are met.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour, preparing resources, and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Promoting Independence: Encourage pupils to develop their independence and self-esteem by providing appropriate levels of challenge and support.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in implementing strategies to support positive behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour, providing feedback to the class teacher and other relevant staff members.
  • Liaison with External Agencies: Collaborate with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists to support pupils' development.

 

  • Experience and Qualifications: Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is essential. Experience supporting pupils with SEND or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Empathy and Understanding: A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: The ability to respond to the changing needs of the pupils and the school environment.
  • Team Player: A collaborative and proactive approach to working with other members of staff, supporting the wider school community.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check and other pre-employment checks.
