Permanent SEN Teaching Assistant New

Teaching Personnel

£18k per year

Temporary | Full Time

A multi-site special school in Croydon are currently looking for multiple Teaching Assistants to start in September on a permanent contract. The school are paying £18,000 a year for this role which requires you to work as a TA with students with Social, Emotional and Attachment difficulties, particularly challenging behaviour.

They are looking for people across many of their sites, based in Croydon, but they are especially looking for staff for their Offsite department, as this is where they currently have the greatest need. Below is some information about this site and what will be required of you:

  • KS3-KS5 – you must be comfortable with these age groups.
  • Community based learning – most learning sessions will take place in the community – cafes, churches etc. –the students will be taken out to learn functional skills and social skills – they do not have a classroom base.
  • The mornings usually consist of generic curriculum learning (just not in a classroom.)
  • In the afternoon, they tend to do fun activities – go somewhere new, the park, horse riding, cooking etc.
  • Mainly 1:1 – you will likely to be given one student to work with on a consistent basis.
  • You will not be expected to teach core subjects but are expected to deliver some other subjects such as PSHE.
  • You must have a good knowledge/understanding of the curriculum and feel confident with maths/English to support.

Also, below is some more information about what is required of you in this role:

  • Must be pro-active and use you own initiative. Teachers will not always give direction (they may not be around) – you must engage with the students and be pro-active.
  • Must be comfortable working with students who may be much bigger/taller than you – you cannot be intimidated by size – often their emotional maturity is a lot lower than their actual age.
  • Must be confident with challenging behaviour. Behaviours can be physically and verbally aggressive – training will be provided if needed but you must be prepared to at least witness extremely challenging behaviours.
  • Must be able to start full-time ASAP (hours are 08:20-4pm.)

Please apply to this advert directly, or email Chloe at  to find out more. The school are interviewing on a rolling basis over the summer, so please apply ASAP to avoid disappointment. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon
