The SEN Teacher Job
My client an outstanding SEN school in the London borough of Wandsworth is a growing and innovative specialist SEN school for pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties with Autism or severe of complex learning difficulties. They are seeking to appoint a primary SEN Teacher to cover a member of staff who is going on maternity leave at Christmas.
Pupils in this Wandsworth SEN School are taught in classes of up to 8 pupils with a specialist teacher with usually 4 special school support assistants. The children follow a topic based curriculum which is modified to take account of their individual learning needs. Most of the pupils in the school have a diagnosis of Autism, so we work hard to make the school an ASD friendly environment. We use a structured teaching approach (TEACCH) throughout the school.
The staff team includes a certified TEACCH practitioner, a qualified PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) implementer, a regional Makaton tutor, an Intensive Interaction specialist and trained PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display) teachers. All staff have regular training including training in ASD strategies. Speech and Language therapy is central to their teaching ethos, and communication targets are set and monitored termly in conjunction with the in house Speech and Language Therapy team who work regularly in the classrooms.
I am looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced SEN teacher with extensive experience delivering teaching in a primary SEN environment. You will be an outstanding class teacher and enjoy demonstrating your creativity, you will also have a strong knowledge of the EYFS/Primary curriculum. You will have excellent interpersonal skills in supporting the leadership and full school team to ensure continuing excellent outcomes for students.
The successful candidate will maintain, build on and extend established outstanding practice in order to meet each pupil's individual needs. All staff are provided with bespoke training and the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to undertake fully funded accredited middle leader training.
