A SEN School based in Chesterfield is looking for Learning Support assistants, both part time, short term and long term. Their children and young people range from primary and secondary ages and have a range of learning difficulties. These include moderate, severe, complex and profound learning difficulties, those with autism, Downs Syndrome, complex medical conditions, physical and mobility difficulties and some pupils who require personal care.

A number of our young people present behavioural difficulties arising from their condition; many have communication difficulties and use Makaton signing as their primary form of communication.

Role requirements:
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic to inspire and achieve the very best outcomes. Commitment to embrace new ideas and challenges whilst having a strong approach to pastoral support for all children.

Skills required:

  • Ability to build good relationships with children, teachers and parents
  • Ability to cope with challenging behaviour
  • Training in Moving and handling and/or personal care
  • Encourage engagement and inclusion
  • Ability to think in a solution focused way
  • Strive for quality of best practice

You should be enthusiastic and committed professional who is flexible and reliable and able to work on your own initiative, with the ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels, particularly as a member of a team. You should have the relevant skills and personal qualities such as being dynamic and proactive to undertake the range of duties and the ability to work accurately and consistently.
