Sports Coach and Teaching Assistant role – Blackburn Area
A Head teacher of a school in the Blackburn area have approached me in order to source a specialist support assistant to work as a part time sports coach and part time teaching assistant. It will the be the role of this support assistant to build excellent rapport with the children across school and also ensure 100% effort is put into the role to ensure progress is made in both academic and social development.
The school is located close to the town of Darwen with good transport links and a good reputation locally for the support the children are given during their primary school experience. The Head teacher is very keen to implement this new full time role in order to further develop some of the harder to reach children, particularly children with Social Emotional and Mental Health Needs. The specification is a little bit vague at the moment as the Head teacher has only just been allocated money to cover the cost of this role. I have a brief outline which looks like this;
The role will be for between 25-32 working hours
The role will be split in the working week, part sports coach and part pastoral mentor
The children you support will be on a 1:1 and small grouped basis, the majority of the children with have difficulties integrating into the full school experience due to a range of special educational needs.
The Head teacher has targeted children who would benefit from a new member of staff who can work on social skills but also develop confidence through sports activities.
You will also be expected to work during break and lunch times, delivering high quality PE content and sports activities.
The role is expected to run initially on a temporary basis through Teaching Personnel with the view to securing a permanent role later in the year, possibly to start from April 2023.
The school is currently a GOOD school by Ofsted and continues to be GOOD. The Head teacher is known for her level of approachability and will always ensure new staff are well inducted and supported in role. The Head teacher has noted that this is a very exciting role which will impact on her children massively, with some of the most difficult children in school being given the best opportunity to progress at the same level as the other children across school.
It is important that the applying teaching assistants have experience in working across a primary school setting, preferably with experience in both KS1 and KS2. It is also expected that the applying candidate will have a qualification and/or experience in the delivery of sports programmes with young children.
