Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Primary School in Sunderland (SR4) who have specialised facilities for children with additional needs and are looking for a teaching assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a KS1 pupil. The role will be full time starting in September with the opportunity to go permanent.

Within this role, you will work with the pupil within the main classroom, supporting them socially and emotionally as well as academically. You will work with other staff including teaching assistants, teachers and SLT to ensure the pupil has the individualised support that they need. You will also provide feedback to parents and carers about the pupil’s progress.

Necessary Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly in a 1:1 support capacity, is highly desirable.
  • Compassion, patience, and empathy for students with diverse learning needs, along with a genuine commitment to supporting their development and well-being.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Understanding of SEN strategies and interventions, including differentiation, behaviour management, and communication techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, following guidance and direction from SEN professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special educational needs are advantageous but not essential
