Are you passionate about supporting young people and making a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing? Do you have a strong desire to help students thrive in a supportive, therapeutic learning environment? If so, we would love to hear from you!

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team at an alternative provision setting for secondary-aged students who need additional support with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Our aim is to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive space where students can build confidence, develop positive relationships, and work towards their educational and personal goals.

In this role, you will work closely with individual students, providing tailored support to meet their unique needs. Responsibilities include:

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students to support their social and emotional development.
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create and implement individualized learning and wellbeing plans.
  • Offering consistent, compassionate 1:1 support to help students manage challenging behaviors and emotions.
  • Supporting students with their academic work in a way that fosters self-esteem, resilience, and progress.
  • Creating a calm, structured environment to help students feel secure and valued in their learning.
  • Encouraging positive social interactions and facilitating opportunities for students to build peer relationships.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people and a commitment to supporting their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational or support setting.
  • A calm, patient approach and the ability to build rapport and trust with students.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed approaches and/or experience with de-escalation techniques is a plus.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 in Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
  • Be part of a dedicated team committed to supporting students’ growth and mental health.
  • Receive ongoing training and development opportunities tailored to SEMH support.
  • Work in a flexible, compassionate environment that values your input and expertise.
  • Make a meaningful impact on students’ lives by supporting them through some of their most challenging moments.

If you are passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs and are ready to make a difference, we would love to hear from you!
