A highly reputable SEMH School Group is seeking a dedicated and passionate Animal Care Tutor to join their permanent staff list at their esteemed independent special school in Trowbridge. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through the therapeutic benefits of animal care and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive Animal Care lessons tailored to the individual needs of students with SEMH challenges.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes both academic and practical skills in animal care.
  • Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment, encouraging student engagement and personal growth.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and adapting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to each student's education and well-being.
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for both students and animals.
  • Organize and oversee practical sessions, field trips, and interactive activities involving animal care.

Requirements:

  • A relevant qualification in Animal Care or a related field.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with students with SEMH needs.
  • Strong knowledge of animal care practices and the ability to convey this knowledge effectively to students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Ability to develop and adapt lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring students with SEMH challenges.

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience in a special school or alternative provision setting.
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches involving animals.
