Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and creative Art Teacher to join a highly regarded secondary school in Reddish, Stockport. This is a full-time maternity cover role starting in January. The school has an excellent reputation for providing a supportive environment that encourages creativity and critical thinking across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Teach engaging and inspiring Art lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, covering a range of artistic techniques and disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
  • Lesson Planning: Develop and implement creative lesson plans that adhere to the national curriculum, ensuring students are challenged and supported in developing their artistic skills and appreciation for the subject.
  • Student Progress: Regularly assess and track student progress through practical work, sketchbooks, and written assessments. Provide constructive feedback to help students refine their techniques and build confidence in their artistic abilities.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves artistically while maintaining high standards of behaviour and safety.
  • Practical Supervision: Oversee practical art projects, ensuring students work safely with materials and equipment. Encourage experimentation and creative problem-solving while maintaining a structured approach to project development.
  • Exam Preparation: Prepare students for GCSE Art examinations, providing guidance on coursework, portfolio development, and exam techniques. Ensure students are well-equipped to achieve their full potential in both practical and theoretical aspects of the subject.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Art department to share resources and ideas, ensuring a consistent approach to teaching across the school. Contribute to departmental meetings and planning sessions as required.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Support extracurricular art activities such as after-school art clubs, exhibitions, or workshops, helping to foster a culture of creativity and artistic exploration within the school.
  • Parent & Colleague Communication: Liaise with parents, carers, and colleagues to discuss student progress and any additional support that may be needed.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Art, Fine Art, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Experience teaching Art at Key Stages 3 and 4, with a solid understanding of the Art curriculum and assessment methods.
  • Skills: Strong classroom management skills, creativity in lesson planning, and a passion for fostering artistic talent in young people.
  • Commitment: A motivated and enthusiastic teacher who can inspire a love for Art and creativity, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
