We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced individual for the role of Assistant Head of Year at a vibrant secondary school in Oldham. As an Assistant Head of Year, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head of Year to enhance the academic and pastoral care of students in a year group. This position requires a dynamic and empathetic professional who is committed to fostering a positive school environment.

  • Assist the Head of Year in monitoring student progress, behavior, and welfare, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to thrive.
  • Work closely with students, providing guidance and support to overcome barriers to learning and personal challenges.
  • Help deliver engaging year group assemblies, PSHE sessions, and initiatives that promote a strong, inclusive school culture.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress, behavior incidents, and pastoral interventions, ensuring effective communication with parents and carers.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support differentiated learning and address any issues affecting student performance.
  • Play an active role in the planning and supervision of year group activities, events, and trips.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in pastoral care.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to supporting the academic and personal development of young people.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Strong organisational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • A proactive, flexible approach, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in a pastoral or educational role (highly desirable but not essential).
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
