Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to work with autistic students in our specialist SEN provision. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with individuals on the autism spectrum and possess the skills necessary to provide tailored support to help these students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEN. 
  2. Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with autism and complex learning difficulties,  incorporating evidence-based practices.
  3. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic and social growth of  students, utilising visual supports, social stories, and sensory accommodations as needed.
  4. Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, including adaptations for sensory processing difficulties and executive functioning challenges.
  5. Help students develop self-regulation and coping skills to navigate social situations and manage sensory sensitivities, employing strategies such as mindfulness exercises, social skills training, and sensory integration techniques.
  6. Provide assistance with daily tasks and routines, including personal care and hygiene support, as outlined in students' Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHCPs) or Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).
  7. Employ strategies to promote positive behavior and address challenges related to autism effectively

Experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs and a solid understanding of autism spectrum disorders, including common co-occurring conditions such as ADHD and anxiety disorders is desirable.

The sucsessful candidate will have:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues, and effectively collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with individuals with diverse learning needs.

- Flexibility and willingness to provide personal care and hygiene support as needed, with sensitivity and respect for students' dignity and autonomy.
