Job Opportunity: Behaviour Mentor

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Behaviour Mentor to join an Ofsted-rated good secondary school in Chorlton. This full-time position is available to start ASAP and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The pay for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who exhibit challenging behaviour, helping them to engage positively with their education and develop appropriate social skills. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Student Support:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with behavioural challenges, helping them to understand and manage their behaviour.
  • Develop and implement behaviour intervention plans tailored to individual student needs.
  • Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies to support students during moments of crisis.
  • Monitor and record student behaviour, providing feedback and reporting to teachers, parents/carers, and the senior leadership team.

Classroom Assistance:

  • Support classroom teachers in managing student behaviour and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of behaviour management strategies within the classroom.
  • Help students to stay on task and engage with their learning during lessons.
  • Provide additional support to students who are at risk of exclusion or those with identified behavioural needs.

Mentoring and Guidance:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and mentor.
  • Offer guidance and support to help students develop self-regulation, resilience, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Work with students to set behaviour-related goals and monitor their progress towards achieving these goals.
  • Facilitate group sessions and workshops focused on social skills, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff, and other support staff to ensure a coordinated approach to behaviour support.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing regular updates on student behaviour and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and multi-agency meetings as required.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals, such as educational psychologists and social workers, to provide comprehensive support to students.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of student behaviour, interventions, and progress.
  • Assist with the preparation of behaviour reports and documentation for meetings and reviews.
  • Help organise and maintain a safe and supportive environment for students both in and out of the classroom.

Requirements:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people and supporting them to overcome behavioural challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Previous experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, either in a school setting or through voluntary work, is desirable but not essential.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in behaviour management, youth work, or a related field are advantageous but not required.
