Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed and experienced Behaviour Mentor to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Stockport. This full-time position begins ASAP and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance. The role offers a competitive weekly pay of £419.25 - £500.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students who face challenges in managing their behaviour, helping them to engage positively with their education. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Student Support: Providing one-on-one and small group mentoring to students who struggle with behaviour issues. You will work closely with these students to understand the underlying causes of their behaviour, helping them to develop positive coping strategies and improve their self-regulation skills.

  • Behaviour Management: Assisting in the implementation of behaviour management plans and strategies within the classroom and wider school environment. You will support teaching staff by managing challenging behaviour and helping to maintain a positive and conducive learning atmosphere.

  • Pastoral Care: Acting as a role model and trusted adult for students who require additional guidance. You will offer emotional support, helping students to build self-esteem, resilience, and a sense of responsibility for their actions.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with teachers, the pastoral team, and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement effective behaviour support strategies. You will be involved in creating individualized behaviour plans tailored to each student's needs.

  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keeping detailed records of student progress, behaviour incidents, and the outcomes of interventions. You will regularly report on the effectiveness of the support provided and work with the school to adjust strategies as needed.

  • Crisis Intervention: Providing immediate support in situations where students' behaviour escalates, using de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff. You will be a key member of the team in managing and resolving behavioural crises.

  • Parental Engagement: Engaging with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and behaviour. You will work to build strong home-school partnerships that support students' development.

  • Mentoring and Guidance: Helping students to set personal goals and providing ongoing support to help them achieve these. You will encourage positive behaviour and attitudes, helping students to stay focused on their education and personal growth.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students, staff, and parents.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, especially when dealing with difficult or stressful situations.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and flexible approach to meeting students' needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and interventions is highly desirable, though training will be provided.
  • A commitment to helping students overcome barriers to their learning and achieve their full potential.

Benefits:

  • Competitive weekly pay ranging from £419.25 to £500.
  • The opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students who need additional behavioural support.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment within an Ofsted-rated 'Good' school.
  • Access to professional development and training opportunities to enhance your skills.
  • The potential for the role to become permanent, based on performance.
