Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team, focusing on providing support to primary school children in Year 3 with additional needs, including SEMH, ASD, and PMLD. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced SENCO and teaching staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Support: Provide tailored support to students with SEMH, ASD, and PMLD to facilitate their engagement and progress in the classroom.
  2. Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement, to support students in managing their emotions and behaviours.
  3. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the SENCO, teachers, and other support staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) for students.
  4. Inclusion: Promote a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the classroom, ensuring that all students feel respected, included, and supported.
  5. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/carers, providing regular updates on students' progress and any concerns or achievements.
  6. Resource Development: Assist in the development and adaptation of resources and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with SEMH, ASD, and PMLD.
  7. Personal Care: Provide personal care and support as required, including assisting with toileting, feeding, and mobility.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH, ASD, and/or PMLD is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable but not essential).
