Behaviour Support Assistant – Wilmslow

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow. This full-time position starts in October and continues until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The salary for this position ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students manage their behaviour, promoting a positive learning environment, and supporting their social and emotional development. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about working with young people, particularly those who may face challenges in maintaining appropriate behaviour in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Work one-on-one or with small groups of students who require additional support in managing their behaviour. You will help them develop coping strategies, set goals, and improve their behaviour in and out of the classroom.

  • Classroom Assistance: Support teachers in maintaining a positive classroom environment. This may involve assisting with behaviour management during lessons, ensuring that all students remain engaged and focused.

  • Intervention Programmes: Assist in the delivery of targeted intervention programmes designed to address specific behavioural issues. You will work closely with the pastoral team to implement strategies that support students' individual needs.

  • Conflict Resolution: Help mediate conflicts between students, providing guidance on how to resolve disputes in a constructive manner. You will also support restorative justice practices within the school.

  • Parental Engagement: Communicate with parents or guardians as needed, providing updates on their child’s behaviour and progress. You may be involved in meetings to discuss behaviour plans and strategies for improvement.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, the pastoral team, and other support staff to ensure that the needs of all students are met. You will be part of a dedicated team focused on improving student outcomes and maintaining a positive school culture.

  • Monitoring Progress: Keep detailed records of student behaviour, interventions, and progress. This data will be used to assess the effectiveness of behaviour management strategies and to inform future interventions.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people, particularly in a behaviour support role, is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, with a commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • An understanding of behavioural management strategies and a proactive approach to implementing them.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently when required.
  • A genuine interest in supporting the educational and emotional well-being of young people.
