Behavioural Unit Teaching Assistant 

**The position is within a secure unit and will be highly challenging but will offer you great job satisfaction and sense of achievement. The school is known to appoint individuals who are not phased by behavioural difficulties**

**Supporting people with mental health conditions/offenders can include those with learning disabilities, personality disorders, forensic mental health, and serious mental illness, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high level of therapeutic care thorugh education.

What will the role involve?

  • Being able to build strong and trusting relationships
  • Be required to work either with small groups or on a 1:1 basis
  • Being resilient and support individuals through difficult situations
  • At the direction of the class teacher, assess the needs of children & young people and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support learning both in and out of class
  • Encourage children/young people to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities

 

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Driver with access to own vehicle (Essential)
  • Ideally you will have previous experience working with children/young people with challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
  • A Team-Teach qualification or relevant qualification (e.g. PROACT-SCIP/MAPA) are highly desirable, but not essential.
  • An understanding and flexible nature is essential, alongside being proactive, empathetic, engaging and creative.
  • Be patient, engaging and calm when under pressure.
  • Be registered (or willing to register) with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • Be registered (or willing to register) with the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).
