A well-established, Ofsted-rated ‘GOOD’ secondary school in Burnley, Lancashire, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Headteacher to join their senior leadership team from January 2025. The Deputy Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher and the senior leadership team to drive the strategic vision and ethos of the school. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting staff and students, building on the school’s success, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on specific areas of school improvement, such as curriculum development, teaching and learning, or student progress.
  • Support the Headteacher in day-to-day leadership, including overseeing staff management, behaviour management, and safeguarding.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive school culture that promotes student achievement and wellbeing.
  • Manage key operational tasks, including timetabling, staff development, and resource allocation.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the leadership team to achieve the school’s strategic objectives.
  • Engage with parents, governors, and external stakeholders to build positive relationships and enhance the school’s community standing.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will be an experienced and ambitious senior leader with a proven track record of driving improvement in a secondary school setting. They will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and substantial teaching experience within secondary education.
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role, such as Assistant Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.
  • A strong understanding of school improvement strategies, with a focus on raising achievement and improving teaching standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and support staff at all levels.
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, data analysis, and the use of assessment to drive student outcomes.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to maintaining and building upon the school’s high standards.
