Teaching Personnel is seeking an English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position starts in October and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The pay for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students in their English studies, both in and out of the classroom. This role is ideal for a recent English graduate looking to gain valuable experience in education, particularly those considering a future career in teaching. You will work closely with teachers and students to improve literacy, boost attainment, and ensure students are fully engaged in their learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students in English across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them understand core concepts in reading, writing, and literature
  • Providing one-to-one or small group intervention sessions to students who require additional support with their English studies
  • Assisting the classroom teacher in preparing lesson materials, leading small group discussions, and delivering engaging activities
  • Helping students improve their literacy skills, including comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and essay-writing techniques
  • Supporting students with exam preparation and coursework, guiding them on study techniques and revising key topics
  • Encouraging students to take an active interest in reading and literature, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Providing feedback on student progress to teachers and contributing to planning differentiated learning strategies
  • Assisting with classroom management and helping maintain a positive and productive learning environment
  • Developing strong relationships with students, helping to build their confidence and enthusiasm for English
  • Supporting the English department with extracurricular activities such as book clubs or literacy events

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in English Literature, English Language, or a related field is essential
  • A passion for English and education, with a desire to support students in reaching their academic potential
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner
  • Prior experience working with young people in an educational or tutoring capacity is advantageous, but not essential
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to different classroom needs
  • A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and encouraging student progress
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting the welfare of young people
