This full-time position starts in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance. The pay for this position ranges from £419.25 to £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the English department, supporting students both in and out of the classroom to enhance their learning and engagement with the subject. This role is ideal for recent English graduates looking to gain experience in an educational setting, particularly those considering a career in teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of English lessons by assisting teachers with classroom activities and providing one-to-one or small group support
  • Help students develop their reading, writing, and analytical skills across all key stages
  • Provide targeted interventions for students who require additional help, such as those who are behind in literacy or preparing for GCSE exams
  • Work with students of varying abilities, including those with special educational needs, to ensure they can access the curriculum effectively
  • Assist in the preparation of learning materials, lesson planning, and marking of students' work
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to teachers on individual learning outcomes
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment, helping to manage classroom behaviour and encourage student engagement
  • Support extra-curricular activities related to English, such as book clubs, writing competitions, or drama productions
  • Help organise and participate in revision sessions, exam preparation, and after-school clubs designed to improve student outcomes
  • Collaborate with the English department to contribute to the development of the department's curriculum and enrichment opportunities

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in English or a related field is essential
  • A passion for literature and language, with the desire to share that enthusiasm with young people
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex ideas for students of different abilities
  • A proactive, positive, and patient approach to supporting students' learning
  • Experience working with young people, either in an educational or informal capacity, is desirable but not required
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively as part of a team
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
