Entry Level Autism Teaching Assistant Opportunity – Ideal for Graduates and Aspiring Educators

Are you a recent graduate or someone looking to gain valuable experience in the field of education? We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school as an Entry Level Autism Teaching Assistant. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism and other special educational needs. You’ll gain hands-on experience and work closely with experienced educators in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Students: Assist in providing individualised support to students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in classroom settings, under the supervision of qualified teachers and the SENCO.
  • Implement IEPs: Help in the execution of individual education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies, ensuring that students receive tailored support to meet their unique needs.
  • Adapt Learning Materials: Aid students in accessing the curriculum by adapting learning materials and providing additional explanations or guidance to enhance understanding.
  • Foster Positive Relationships: Build and maintain positive relationships with students, encouraging their engagement, participation, and independence in various learning activities.
  • Collaborate with Professionals: Work alongside teachers, therapists, and other specialists to monitor and review student progress, contributing valuable insights to support strategies.
  • Maintain a Safe Learning Environment: Contribute to creating and sustaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive educational environment where all students can thrive.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for Special Education: A genuine interest in working with children and young people with autism and other special educational needs.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for building positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience and Empathy: The ability to remain patient and empathetic, especially when working with individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviors or require additional support.
  • Willingness to Learn: A proactive attitude towards learning new skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, following instructions while also contributing your ideas.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be willing to undergo relevant safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance.
