An Ofsted-rated GOOD secondary school in Essex is seeking a dynamic and passionate Head of Art to join their dedicated team on a permanent basis, starting in January 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated art teacher to lead a thriving department, inspire students, and shape the creative direction of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Art Department, overseeing curriculum planning, teaching, and learning
  • Develop and implement an inspiring, inclusive, and innovative art curriculum for Key Stages 3-5
  • Drive the development of high-quality teaching and learning strategies to enhance student outcomes
  • Support, mentor, and manage the performance of staff within the department
  • Ensure that all pupils, regardless of ability, are encouraged and challenged to achieve their full potential
  • Foster a positive, creative, and stimulating learning environment
  • Liaise with senior leadership and external stakeholders to promote the art department and its achievements
  • Manage the department’s budget and resources effectively

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A degree in Art, Fine Arts, or a related field
  • A minimum of three years' teaching experience, ideally in a secondary school setting
  • Previous leadership or management experience within an educational context (desirable)
  • Proven track record of raising standards in Art through innovative teaching practices
  • Strong understanding of the national curriculum and Ofsted requirements
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
  • A passion for art and creativity, with the ability to inspire students of all abilities
  • Commitment to the holistic development of students and a willingness to engage in extracurricular activities
