Teaching Personnel’s Permanent Workforce Resource (PWR) team are working in close partnership with a secondary school in Reading (RG4), rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. We are seeking a dedicated, innovative, and experienced Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to join their dynamic team. This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary, reflecting the importance and responsibility of the role.

About the Role:

As the Head of MFL, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the MFL department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and Management: Leading the MFL department, developing and implementing the department’s strategic vision and goals.
  • Curriculum Development: Overseeing the design, development, and implementation of a rich and challenging MFL curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Teaching and Learning: Promoting outstanding teaching and learning practices, ensuring the highest standards of education and student achievement.
  • Staff Development: Mentoring and supporting MFL teachers, providing professional development opportunities and conducting performance reviews.
  • Student Progress: Monitoring student progress, setting high expectations, and implementing effective interventions to support student achievement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Building strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders to promote the MFL department and its initiatives.

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential for leading and delivering outstanding teaching in the MFL department.
  • Experience: Significant teaching experience within the MFL department, with a proven track record of success in raising student achievement.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students.
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the MFL curriculum and the ability to develop and implement innovative teaching practices.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment: A commitment to the school’s ethos and values, and a passion for promoting excellence in education.
