An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Head of Science to join the dedicated team at a well-established secondary school in Oxford. Role Overview:

The successful candidate will lead the Science Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages. As the Head of Science, they will be responsible for curriculum development, staff management, and driving forward standards of academic excellence. This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on the school’s future success and to contribute to the ongoing development of a strong, vibrant science community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science Department, including overseeing the development and delivery of the curriculum.
  • Support and mentor a team of dedicated science teachers, ensuring continuous professional development and fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, implementing strategies to improve attainment and engagement in science subjects.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align the department's goals with the school's overall vision and objectives.
  • Ensure the department remains up-to-date with the latest educational developments and best practices in science teaching.
  • Manage department resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring that all students have access to high-quality learning materials and experiences.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive culture within the department, encouraging students of all abilities to achieve their full potential.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a relevant degree in Science or a closely related subject.
  • Proven track record of successful teaching experience within a secondary school, with evidence of achieving strong student outcomes.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role, preferably as a Head of Department or Second in Science.
  • Strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum and current educational practices in science.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for innovative teaching methods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and leadership capabilities.
