An Ofsted-rated GOOD secondary school in Burnley is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Technology to join their dedicated team of educators. This is a permanent, full-time position, beginning in January 2025.

As the Head of Technology, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Technology Department, developing an innovative curriculum, and ensuring students are equipped with essential skills in design, engineering, food technology, and digital literacy. The role will involve managing and mentoring a team of teachers, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, and fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Technology Department, driving improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Develop and deliver an engaging, challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, ensuring the highest standards of attainment.
  • Support and mentor teachers within the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
  • Manage departmental resources effectively, ensuring the use of up-to-date tools and technology.
  • Ensure that the department complies with health and safety regulations, particularly in practical lessons.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to the overall development of the school.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree or equivalent in a related subject (Design Technology, Engineering, etc.).
  • Proven experience in teaching Technology at the secondary level, with a strong track record of success.
  • Leadership experience within a school setting, preferably as a Head of Department or in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum for Technology, including recent developments and innovations.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for all students.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing departmental budgets and resources.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of specialisms within the Technology curriculum.
  • Knowledge of emerging educational technologies and the ability to integrate them into the classroom.
