Job Title: Key Stage 2 (KS2) Teaching Assistant

Reports to: Class Teacher / Head of Year / SEN Coordinator / Deputy Headteacher

Job Purpose:

To support the educational, social, and developmental needs of pupils in KS2, under the guidance of the class teacher and other senior staff members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Classroom Support:

    • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering educational activities.
    • Support pupils in small groups or on a one-to-one basis as required.
    • Help manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment.
    • Prepare and organize teaching materials and resources.
    • Assist with the assessment of pupils’ work and progress.
  2. Pupil Support:

    • Support the emotional and social development of pupils, fostering a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
    • Help pupils with additional needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they have access to learning activities.
    • Supervise pupils during break times, lunchtimes, and on school trips.
    • Encourage good behavior and respect among pupils, following the school’s behavior policies.
  3. Administrative Tasks:

    • Maintain accurate records of pupils' progress and any incidents.
    • Assist in the preparation of displays and the organization of the classroom.
    • Provide clerical support to the teacher, such as photocopying, filing, and record-keeping.
  4. Communication:

    • Liaise with parents, carers, and other professionals regarding pupils' progress and any concerns.
    • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to school events and activities.
    • Communicate effectively with pupils, providing clear instructions and constructive feedback.
  5. Professional Development:

    • Attend relevant training sessions and professional development opportunities.
    • Stay informed about current educational practices and policies.
    • Reflect on personal practice and set targets for improvement.
  6. Health and Safety:

    • Ensure the welfare and safety of pupils at all times.
    • Follow school policies and procedures regarding health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection.
    • Report any concerns regarding pupil welfare to the appropriate staff member.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential:

    • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
    • Relevant experience working with children in an educational setting.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desirable:

    • Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools).
    • Experience working with children with SEN.
    • First Aid certification.
    • Knowledge of the KS2 curriculum.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
