Location: Wallasey, Merseyside
Start Date: Immediate, 25 hours a week

Overview: Teaching Personnel is seeking a highly organized and motivated Lab Technician to support the science department in a dynamic secondary school in Wallasey. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for science, who enjoys working in a school environment and has experience with laboratory equipment and safety procedures. The position is available for an immediate start.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and materials for science lessons, including experiments and demonstrations.
  • Support science teachers during practical lessons by ensuring students have the necessary equipment and resources.
  • Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, ensuring all apparatus is in good working condition.
  • Manage and monitor stock levels of chemicals and scientific materials, ordering new supplies as needed.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are met in the science labs, conducting regular risk assessments and enforcing safe working practices.
  • Dispose of chemical and biological waste safely and in accordance with regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation and storage of chemicals, ensuring proper labelling and safe handling.
  • Provide general support to the science department, including administrative tasks and assisting in lessons when required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a lab environment, ideally within a school or educational setting.
  • A good understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to support both staff and students.
  • Science-related qualifications or background in a scientific discipline is desirable.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
