Teaching Personnel are recruiting for 2 Learning Support Assistants with experience in working with children and/or adults who have Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs in the Andover area of Hampshire.

The successful candidate will need to have a passion for supporting students’ mental health and assist with creating a nurturing learning environment. The successful LSA will be working closely with staff and students in order to effectively assist and guide students through any challenges they may have.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support sessions for students, focusing on coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-care techniques.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of education plans for students with mental health concerns.
  • Monitor students' progress and communicate effectively with teachers regarding this.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy and safeguarding laws and regulations.
  • Support teacher in managing the behaviour and specialist needs of the young people.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE’s/ Level 2 Equivalent in Mathematics.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or mental health setting. We will also consider those with experience supporting adults with similar needs.
  • Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in mental health support for students.
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of child safeguarding and ability to respond to such concerns effectively and efficiently.

The educational facility caters for students between the ages of 11 and 16 who have a range of abilities and special educational needs. These can include but are not constrained to moderate learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, specific learning difficulties and gross and Fine motor difficulties.

The school is open from 08:30 to 16:00.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
