An esteemed high-achieving girls' school in Reading is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Support Assistant to join their permanent staff from September 2024. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the inclusive educational environment of a prestigious institution known for its academic excellence and commitment to student development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring they have access to the full curriculum and school activities.
  • Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other teaching staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and academic progress of SEN students.
  • Assist in the development and adaptation of teaching materials to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Monitor and record the progress of students, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Support students in developing social skills, independence, and confidence within the school setting.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and professionals as necessary to provide comprehensive support to students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in an educational setting.
  • A relevant qualification in education, SEN support, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and the ability to implement best practices in SEN support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational and personal development of students with SEN.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take initiative when needed.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a high-achieving educational environment.
  • Additional qualifications or training in specific SEN areas such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Dyslexia, or Speech and Language Therapy.
