Learning Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are thrilled to be working alongside a large secondary school within Newport, who are are seeking to recruit 3 x Learning Support Assistants to join the school for next academic year!  The successful Learning Support Assistant will be working within the schools ASD base supporting pupils with Autism.

This role is to start in September 2024, and will be permanent position.  If successful, you will join the school initially via Teaching Personnel and transfer onto a permanent school contract within the Spring term.

Working hours are 8:30-15:30 (Mon – Fri  - term time only).  Salary ranges from £85 to £100 per day, depending on experience and qualifications!

The school are seeking full time applicants, but part time will also be considered if you can commit to a job share working at least 2 days a week.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will support pupils between ages 11-16 across all year groups. This post will involve working with pupils on a one-to-one basis, within small groups within the base or supporting in mainstream. The successful candidates will be able to familiarise themselves with the educational needs of pupils and draw on information provided by the school and SENCO in order to provide the best support possible.

The ideal candidate for this Learning Support Assistant role is someone who is motivated, patient and supportive.

  • Provide support and guidance to students
  • Prepare resources under teacher instruction
  • Effective record keeping in line with the EHCP
  • Build a positive relationship with the children and parents and make a real difference!
  • Assisting classroom teachers in delivering lessons and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support to students with additional learning needs
  • Helping to create engaging and interactive learning materials.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and implementing the school’s behaviour management policies.
  • Participating in extracurricular activities and school events.

The ideal candidate:

  • Experience and knowledge of supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs – in any setting! 
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • Strong de-escalation skills
  • Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential - Teaching Personnel can support you with completing this during registration

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum qualifications required - 5 GCSEs grades A-C
  • At least 3 months expeirence working with or caring for children of relevant age.
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills
  • Enhanched DBS and EWC registration - Teaching Personnel will help you apply for this during registration
