Learning Support Assistants needed in Portsmouth! 

 

Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join our partner secondary schools in the Portsmouth area.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people in overcoming challenges and achieving their full potential.

If you have experience working with students who require additional support, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, and behavioural challenges, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in their educational journey.

 

  • Individualised Support: Provide tailored one-on-one or small group assistance to pupils, helping them engage with the curriculum and achieve their personal learning goals.
  • Implementing Support Strategies: Work alongside teachers and the SENDCo to deliver customised learning and support plans that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Classroom Support: Assist the class teacher in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment by helping with classroom management, resource preparation, and supporting pupils' learning.
  • Encouraging Personal Growth: Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, and independence through structured guidance and encouragement.
  • Behavioural Guidance: Help manage and promote positive behaviour, using appropriate strategies to support students in overcoming behavioural barriers.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keep accurate records of student progress and behaviour, providing regular updates to teachers and support staff.
  • Liaising with Specialists: Collaborate with external professionals, such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

 

  • Relevant Experience: Prior experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is essential. Experience supporting students with SEND or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Compassion and Patience: A caring and understanding nature, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Adaptability: The ability to be flexible and responsive to the varying needs of pupils and the school environment.
  • Team Collaboration: A proactive and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and contributing to the wider school community.
  • Commitment to Safeguarding: A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful candidates will be required to undergo a DBS check and other pre-employment checks.
