Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School

Location: South Manchester
Start Date: After October Half Term
Salary: £85 - £100 per day, depending on experience

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in the South Manchester area after the October half term. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting students’ academic and personal development, particularly those with additional needs. If you have experience in education or a desire to help students succeed, this is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Targeted Support: Assist students with additional learning needs, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), in their day-to-day learning. Offer one-to-one and small group support to help them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.
  • Assist in Classrooms: Work closely with teachers to support the delivery of lessons, adapting materials and activities to suit individual learning styles and needs. Provide additional support to students during classwork and assessments.
  • Promote Positive Behaviour: Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning by using appropriate strategies and interventions. Support students in developing social skills, resilience, and independence.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work alongside the SENCo, teachers, and other support staff to create and implement personalised learning plans. Regularly review and adapt these plans based on student progress and feedback.
  • Support School Activities: Assist with a variety of school activities, including extracurricular clubs and school trips, to support students' holistic development and involvement in school life.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role within an educational setting is desirable. Experience working with students with SEN or additional needs is highly valued.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. The ability to remain patient, flexible, and calm under pressure.
  • Attributes: A proactive and enthusiastic approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people. The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge: An understanding of SEN strategies and best practices is advantageous, along with a basic knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
