Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with students who require additional support, helping them to reach their full potential both academically and personally.

As an LSA, you will:

  • Provide personalised support: Work on a 1:1 basis or in small groups with students who have special educational needs, ensuring they have the help and guidance required to access the curriculum effectively.
  • Support classroom learning: Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons, adapting resources and materials to suit the needs of individual students.
  • Encourage student engagement: Help students stay motivated and engaged in their learning by fostering a positive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Promote independence: Encourage students to develop skills that promote independence, both academically and in social situations.
  • Monitor progress: Collaborate with the SENCo and teaching staff to track student progress, contributing to learning plans and strategies that ensure every child makes progress.
  • Support well-being: Act as a mentor for students, providing emotional and behavioural support where needed, helping them to feel confident and secure in school.
  • Experience working with SEN students: Prior experience as an LSA, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role is preferred, but candidates with relevant experience in youth work or care are also welcome.
  • Patience and empathy: A compassionate approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with students who may face challenges in learning.
  • Strong communication skills: The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and parents to ensure the best outcomes for each child.
  • Team player: You'll be working alongside a collaborative SEN department, supporting teachers and working closely with other LSAs.
  • Adaptability: The ability to adapt learning resources and approaches to meet the diverse needs of the students.
  • Supportive SEN department: You'll be part of a dedicated team that works together to provide the best possible support for students with additional needs.
