Ofsted rated “Good” Post 16 College located in the London Borough of Greenwich is recruiting a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to start a Monday to Friday contract to start in August 2024!

The successful LSA will provide personalised support to students with various special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH). This LSA role involves both 1:1 and Key student group classroom support, aimed at fostering an inclusive and conducive learning environment.

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with ASD, ADD, ODD, and SEMH needs to facilitate their academic and personal development.
  • Assist in the classroom, supporting the teacher in managing the behaviour and engagement of students with special educational needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with teachers and special education coordinators.
  • Monitor and record the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.
  • Utilize behaviour management strategies to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving their potential.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging students to participate fully in college life.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Provide support during examinations and assessments, including scribing and reading as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the college’s policies and procedures regarding safeguarding and student welfare.
  • Previous experience working as an LSA or Behaviour TA / SEN TA / Learning Mentor Behaviour Mentor in a similar role, particularly with post-16 students.
  • Proven experience in supporting students with ASD, ADD, ODD, and SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people with special educational needs.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
