Mental Health / Behaviour Support Assistant (Ages 4-11)
Location: Salford
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Sector: Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Teaching Personnel, the UK’s leading education recruitment agency, is excited to partner with a vibrant primary school in Salford dedicated to supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We’re on the lookout for an empathetic and confident Support Assistant to join their dynamic team and be a positive role model for children who need it most.

As a Mental Health / Behaviour Support Assistant, you’ll be a key figure in helping children (ages 4-11) navigate the complexities of school life. You’ll work with students facing challenges, including those from care backgrounds, who need someone to believe in them. This is the perfect role for someone who’s passionate about making a positive impact and thrives in a role where no two days are the same.

  • Student Support: Provide emotional and academic guidance to help students build confidence, self-esteem, and coping strategies.
  • Behaviour Management: Use positive techniques to manage challenging behaviour, helping create a calm, respectful learning environment.
  • Positive Role Model: Inspire students with your own behaviour, communication, and social skills. Show them the possibilities they can aspire to.
  • Personalised Learning: Work with teachers and therapists to adapt learning plans that suit each student’s unique needs.
  • Emotional Development: Lead activities that develop social skills, resilience, and emotional regulation, helping students form positive relationships and a strong self-image.
  • Safe and Supportive Environment: Build trust with students and foster a space where they feel safe, valued, and heard.
  • Collaboration: Team up with teachers, social workers, and therapists to provide holistic, tailored support for each student’s growth.
  • Creative Engagement: Bring energy and creativity to the classroom with fun, engaging activities that help students reconnect with the joy of learning.
  • Passion: You’re driven to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and support their emotional and educational growth.
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, patience, and resilience. You’re confident handling challenging behaviour and understand the importance of positive reinforcement.
  • Experience: While experience with SEMH students is a plus, we welcome anyone with a heart for helping vulnerable young people.
  • Commitment: This is a full-time role (Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM), offering you the chance to be a constant, reliable presence in your students’ lives.
