We are looking for a dedicated Mental Health Support Assistant to support students with emotional and behavioural challenges, reducing the risk of disengagement and exclusion.

This school is an inclusive co-educational institution in northeast Bath. The school focuses on preparing students for work and independent living through high-quality teaching and personalized support, ensuring all students can access a rich and varied curriculum. The team of Support Assistants are an important part of this vision and the students’ provision

The roles and responsibilities:

-           Provide direct support to students with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions and behaviors, and facilitating their engagement in learning.

-           Implement and support positive behavior strategies, helping to de-escalate conflicts and promote a positive classroom environment.

-           Assist in creating and delivering individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management plans tailored to each student's needs.

-           Offer emotional support and encouragement, building trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and valued.

-           Track and report on student progress, behaviour, and engagement, collaborating with teachers and other professionals to adjust strategies as needed.

-           Ensure that all students are included in classroom activities, adapting tasks and environments to meet individual needs.

-           Be prepared to manage and respond to crises, using de-escalation techniques and providing immediate support in stressful situations.

-           Continuously update knowledge and skills related to SEMH support and education through professional development and training.

The successful candidate will have one or more of the following:

-           Experience of working in a school, care or support.

-           Experience of working with young people in a school or extra-curricular context.

-           Qualifications in psychology, mental health or an equivalent.

-           GCSE of equivalent passes in English and Mathematics.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
