We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to support the mental health needs of our students. The successful candidate will work closely with our educational and support staff to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. 

The school caters for young people between the ages of 11-16 who are unable to attend mainstream school. This could be due to high anxiety levels, medical needs or behavioral difficulties.

As a Teaching Assistant in this school you would be working with very small class sizes of no more than 9 students and will work under the supervision of a class teacher. You may also have the support of another Teaching Assistant in your class. 

Along side core curriculum, this school also has a huge focus on sports and year 9 students also attend a forest school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students with mental health needs, both individually and in groups.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualised support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counsellors, and other staff to identify and address student mental health concerns.
  • Support classroom activities and facilitate a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in mental health support.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or relevant experience working with children or adults with mental health difficulties
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and strategies for support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field are desirable.
