Temporary Pastoral Support Officer

Are you passionate about supporting students' well-being and ensuring a positive school environment? We are currently seeking a dedicated Temporary Pastoral Support Officer to join our team at a secondary school in Croydon.

Role Overview:
As a Temporary Pastoral Support Officer, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to students, promoting their social, emotional, and academic development. Your responsibilities will include addressing student welfare issues, implementing behavior management strategies, and liaising with students, parents, and staff members to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To fully understand the most up-to-date guidance regarding the contextual safeguarding of children and to apply this in all aspects of your work.
  • To develop strong leadership skills, peer coaching, and mentoring within students through the House system.
  • Work in partnership with key colleagues to ensure that students are effectively prepared for all key events e.g. work experience, option choices, external examinations etc.
  • Support the work around creating alternative timetables for vulnerable students and ensuring personalized provision where appropriate; share information with all key personnel as appropriate.
  • To liaise with parents/carers regularly to secure excellent attendance, behavior, and standards.
  • To be on gate duty (or around site) before and after the school day.
  • To take lunch and break times outside of school break and lunch times.
  • Promote high standards of behavior among students, encouraging them to develop positive relationships with each other and with all adults.
  • To deal with and accurately record all incidents of bullying and unacceptable behavior.
  • Be on call throughout the day, acting as the first point of contact for students in one (two) House and dealing with situations as they arise to prevent escalation or further incidents.
  • Sweep the School regularly through the day, particularly targeting specific groups and classes as necessary and being proactive in incident prevention.
  • Promote the school’s reward system and ensure that all students and staff use this to the full.
  • Be a staff presence on duty at every lunch and break time.
  • Actively support school detentions within the house system.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role within a UK secondary school setting
  • Valid Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service
  • Availability to start immediately
  • Residency within 5 to 10 miles from Croydon
