Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Assistant to join a large secondary school in Highcliffe, Christchurch. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about providing SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) support and improving student behaviour and attendance.

The role is essential to the pastoral team, where you will work closely with staff and students to create a positive and nurturing school environment.

  • Collaborate with the pastoral lead to support and enhance student behaviour and attendance across the secondary school.
  • Provide focused pastoral support to students experiencing SEMH challenges, helping them manage their emotions and behaviours within the classroom.
  • Conduct one-on-one pastoral sessions with students to address individual behaviour concerns and provide targeted SEMH support.
  • Respond to on-call situations, providing immediate pastoral and behaviour-related assistance as part of the school’s response team.
  • Regularly review and adjust behaviour and attendance plans based on student progress, ensuring continued support for SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Perform risk assessments to ensure a safe, supportive environment for students dealing with behavioural and SEMH challenges.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students to encourage improved behaviour and foster emotional resilience.
  • Experience in a secondary school pastoral role or similar position supporting behaviour and SEMH.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to provide effective behaviour and SEMH support to students.
  • A genuine passion for education and helping students improve their behaviour and succeed in their learning.
  • Ability to work well within a team, particularly in a pastoral and behaviour support capacity.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
