Role Overview:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students' educational and emotional development, drawing on your psychology background to offer tailored assistance. This role is ideal for graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in a school environment, particularly those considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, or child and adolescent mental health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Emotional and Behavioural Support: Use your psychology knowledge to support students facing emotional or behavioural challenges. This may include helping them to develop coping strategies, improve their emotional regulation, and build resilience.

  • Classroom Assistance: Work closely with teachers to deliver lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and support students in their learning. You will assist in the planning and preparation of educational materials, ensuring that all students can engage fully with the curriculum.

  • SEN Support: Collaborate with the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support students with special educational needs. Your insights will help tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of these students, ensuring they receive the appropriate level of support.

  • Monitoring Progress: Regularly monitor and assess the progress of the students you support, maintaining detailed records and providing feedback to teaching staff and parents. Your observations will be critical in shaping future learning plans and interventions.

  • Mental Health Awareness: Promote mental health and well-being within the school, providing a supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing their concerns. You will be a key part of the school's pastoral care team, offering advice and guidance to students as needed.

  • Parental Liaison: Engage with parents and carers to keep them informed about their child's progress and well-being. Your communication will help build a strong partnership between home and school, ensuring a cohesive approach to the student's development.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding by ensuring the welfare and safety of all students. You will be vigilant in identifying and reporting any concerns, contributing to a safe and nurturing school environment.
