Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant - Bramhall, Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a motivated Psychology Graduate to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Bramhall, Stockport. This full-time position begins in October and continues until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of the role becoming permanent based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 and £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and emotional needs of students. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a school setting, particularly if you are considering a future career in educational psychology, teaching, or counseling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons, particularly in Psychology and related subjects. Provide additional support to students who may struggle with certain topics, ensuring they understand the material.

  • One-to-One and Group Interventions: Work with individual students or small groups to offer targeted assistance, helping them to develop study strategies, improve their understanding of psychological concepts, and prepare for exams.

  • Behavioral and Emotional Support: Use your knowledge of psychology to help identify students who may be facing emotional or behavioral challenges. Provide support and implement strategies to help them manage these issues, fostering a positive learning environment.

  • Resource Development: Assist in creating and preparing educational materials, such as worksheets, presentations, and visual aids, that support the teaching of Psychology and other related subjects.

  • Student Mentorship: Act as a mentor to students, offering guidance and support in both academic and personal development. Encourage students to engage with their studies and explore their interest in psychology.

  • Classroom Management: Support the class teacher in maintaining order and promoting a positive, focused classroom atmosphere. Help manage student behavior and ensure that all students are able to participate effectively in lessons.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Help in assessing students' work, providing constructive feedback, and tracking their progress throughout the year. Use this information to inform future lesson planning and intervention strategies.

  • Professional Development: Take part in training opportunities and professional development sessions offered by the school. Learn from experienced educators and apply this knowledge to your role.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • A strong interest in applying psychological principles within an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with secondary school students.
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to working with young people, particularly those who may face challenges in their learning.
  • Experience working with young people, either in an educational, mentoring, or support capacity, is desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of students.
