Pupil Referral Unit Teaching Assistant

A new vacancy has opened at a SEMH provision in Salford,  specifically looking for a skilled Learning Assistant with an excellent understanding of the social, emotional, and behavioural development of children and young individuals. The setting is a Pupil Referral Unit for 11-18 year olds who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. It is a small provision with a high student – staff ratio.

The role:

-          Work 1-1 and in small groups with students to assist in the delivery of lessons for students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

-          Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the social and emotional well-being of students.

-          Implement behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours and support students in developing coping mechanisms.

-          Act as a mentor and role model for SEMH students, promoting positive relationships and self-esteem.

-          Support students in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation.

-          Work closely with external agencies, such as psychologists or counsellors, to provide comprehensive support for students.

Ideal candidates will have experience dealing with challenging behaviour within a mainstream or PRU setting, however this is not essential as long as you can demonstrate a commitment to supporting vulnerable students within a specialist environment.

This role is a great opportunity for those with relevant experience such as:

Those from a background in education, care or the support of vulnerable people; graduates from Psychology, educators wanting to gain SEN/SEMH experience.
