Reading Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated KS3 Reading Teaching Assistant to join our client secondary school in October. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students’ reading development, particularly those who may struggle with literacy skills. You will work closely with teachers to implement tailored interventions that enhance students’ reading abilities and foster a positive attitude towards reading.

The school is situated in the heart of Didsbury, within walking distance to local public transport options including bus and tram. There is also a large onsite car park for members of staff with a vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Individual Students: Provide one-on-one or small group support to students who require additional help with their reading skills.
  • Assist in Lesson Planning: Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop engaging reading activities that cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor Progress: Track and assess student progress in reading, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.
  • Create a Positive Learning Environment: Foster an encouraging atmosphere that motivates students to engage with texts and develop their comprehension skills.
  • Promote Literacy Initiatives: Participate in school-wide literacy programs and events aimed at promoting reading across the curriculum.
  • Provide Administrative Support: Assist with the preparation of teaching materials and maintain accurate records of student progress.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of GCSEs in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A passion for literacy and helping students achieve their potential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
