A school in Tameside is seeking a reliable and dedicated School Caretaker to join their team. As the caretaker, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the school’s buildings and grounds, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. Your work will support the smooth day-to-day running of the school, and you will be responsible for overseeing security, conducting repairs, and managing general maintenance tasks.
We are looking for a practical, hands-on individual who takes pride in their work and can proactively identify and address maintenance issues as they arise.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the school premises, including classrooms, corridors, and outdoor areas, are well-maintained and meet health and safety standards.
  • Carry out minor repairs, maintenance, and improvements as needed, ensuring all equipment and facilities are in good working order.
  • Oversee the security of the building, including locking/unlocking the premises and setting alarms.
  • Manage heating, lighting, and alarm systems to ensure the building is ready for daily use.
  • Assist with cleaning duties when necessary and supervise cleaning staff to maintain cleanliness throughout the school.
  • Monitor and replenish stock for maintenance and cleaning supplies.
  • Liaise with external contractors for larger repairs or maintenance projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role, preferably within a school or similar environment.
  • Good DIY skills and the ability to carry out minor repairs.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • A proactive, problem-solving approach and the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a school community.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for school events.
