Are you passionate about supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of children? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Support Assistant to join our team as the Lead Teaching Assistant in our Nurture Hub, providing specialist support for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the Nurture Hub, providing targeted support to children with SEMH needs, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • Develop and implement individualised support plans, working closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals to meet the specific needs of each child.
  • Deliver tailored interventions and activities that promote emotional resilience, social skills, and positive behaviour.
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with children, helping them to develop confidence, self-esteem, and positive coping strategies.
  • Monitor and record children’s progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO, teachers, and parents/carers.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider school team to ensure that the Nurture Hub supports whole-school inclusion and the well-being of all pupils.
  • Provide guidance and support to other Teaching Assistants and staff in understanding and managing SEMH needs within the classroom.
  • Engage with parents/carers, offering advice and support to help them understand and manage their child’s SEMH needs at home.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in supporting children with SEMH needs.
  • Experience working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective strategies to support children’s emotional well-being and behaviour.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Leadership skills, with experience in managing and supporting other staff members.
  • A nurturing and patient approach, with the ability to create a calm and supportive learning environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, mental health, or child development would be an advantage.
  • Experience in leading or managing a specialised support unit, such as a Nurture Hub or similar provision.
  • Knowledge of specific interventions or therapeutic approaches for supporting children with SEMH needs.
  • Training in mental health first aid or a similar area.
