The setting is a specialist SEMH provision in Wigan, dedicated to supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Our focus is on creating a safe, nurturing environment where pupils can develop the skills and resilience they need to succeed in their education and personal lives.

Students with SEMH needs often struggle with managing emotions, building relationships, and engaging with their learning. These challenges can affect their behaviour, self-esteem, and overall well-being. We are committed to providing tailored support to help our pupils overcome these challenges, fostering their growth both academically and personally.

We’re looking for a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our team, specialising in delivering GCSE-level English to pupils with SEMH needs. You will play a crucial role in helping our students achieve academic success while addressing their unique emotional and behavioural challenges. Class sizes are reduced to ensure focused, individualised attention, and you may also lead small intervention groups to support students who need extra help.

This position is particularly suitable for teachers with a strong interest in educational psychology or mental health, as well as those passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

  • Teach GCSE English to pupils with SEMH needs, adapting lessons to meet their individual learning styles.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage students and manage classroom behaviour.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages pupils to achieve their potential.
  • Lead small intervention groups to provide targeted support where needed.
  • Work closely with other staff to develop and deliver individual learning plans.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in teaching English at GCSE level.
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a patient, empathetic approach.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Flexibility and a collaborative attitude.
  • Join a supportive, dedicated team focused on pupil well-being and success.
  • Make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Benefit from reduced class sizes and the opportunity to lead targeted intervention groups.
