We are looking for a dedicated and passionate SEMH Mentor to support students with emotional and behavioural challenges, helping reduce non-attendance, school suspensions, and exclusions.

This inclusive co-ed school in northeast Bath, was rated 'Good' by SIAMS and OFSTED in 2021/22, reflecting the hard work of their staff.

Their holistic approach prepares students for work and independent living through high-quality teaching, personalized support, and evidence-based interventions. Setting high expectations for all learners, with Support Assistants playing a key role in fostering participation and achievement.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to students facing emotional or behavioural difficulties.
  • Assist students in setting academic goals, developing study skills, and staying on track with their work.
  • Work with students at risk of poor attendance, addressing underlying issues, and collaborating with families to improve attendance and engagement.
  • Help mediate conflicts between students or between students and staff, promoting positive relationships and communication.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians about their child’s progress and collaborate to create supportive environments at home and school.
  • Support students at risk of suspension or exclusion by creating action plans to improve behaviour and engagement.
  • Track student progress, report on their development, and adjust mentoring strategies as needed.

The successful educator will have one or more of the following experiences:

  • Working with school students in educational, youth work, or pastoral roles. This can include teaching, tutoring, youth mentoring, or support work.
  • Supporting individuals with emotional, social, or behavioural challenges is often required. This could come from working with students with special educational needs (SEN) or those at risk of exclusion.
  • Prior experience in mentoring or coaching roles, especially in education or youth-focused environments, is highly valuable.
  •  Experience working as part of a team, including collaborating with teachers, counsellors, and parents to support student progress.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
